Ludhiana Life Style

Life Style in Ludhiana

Ludhiana is the city with the most extravagant bungalows and largest number of vehicles in the country. Ludhiana, the industrial and financial hub of North India, represents one of the grandest success stories of Punjab. The city has come a long way from its earlier avtar as a producer of shoddy and substandard goods. The bicycles, auto parts, and of course, hosiery items with a "made-in-Ludhiana" label are now as valued as a "made-in-USA" or a "made-in-England" label. Which is saying a lot for die-hard Punjabis obsessed with all things foreign.

Conceivably no other particular city has observed such swift growth and fabulous industrial growth and wealth generation as Ludhiana, the Manchester of India. The triumph story is not about industry alone. The city of Ludhiana is also one of the most important education and health centers of the Northern India. ...............................

Ghumar Mandi Ludhiana

Ludhiana Shopping Places

The busy commercial hub of Ghumar Mandi in the city was once again plagued with a nerve-testing traffic jam this afternoon that lasted for about two hours, bringing once again to the fore the menace of encroachments in the area.

Ever since Ghumar Mandi, once a desolate place, came to be reckoned as new commercial centre for the Civil Lines area, it has witnessed remarkable changes. Old haveli-type buildings have made way for palatial shopping plazas and showrooms. Business activity has increased so much that even more modern buildings are still being razed to erect multi-storyed shopping complexes.

Because of the festival season, all shops have made extra extensions and the number of rehris selling household items are also increasing with the passing of each day. It seems the residents are in for more traffic jams in the days to come.

Ludhiana Master Plan

Ludhiana Master Plan:

Master Plan of Ludhiana was initially prepared in the year 1971 was published in the govt. gazette. A number of residential urban development schemes and industrial focal points were planned as per the proposals of this master plan, keeping the ground conditions in view; this master plan was revised in the year 1985. Again the revision was made in the year 1992. But, unfortunately these revised master plans couldn't be notified in the official gazette, as there was no Act available under which these master plans could become the statutory documents. The implementation of proposals of these master plans couldn't be enforced as a result of which unplanned growth and haphazard growth continued to take place; ultimately resulted in chaos everywhere in the city deteriorating living as well as working conditions..............................

Dr. B.L Kapoor Memorial Hospital, Ludhiana

It began with a visionary, Dr Beshasher Lal Kapur, a young medical enthusiast from The Medical School of Germany who arrived in Lahore in 1930. He was shocked that India followed the traditional “daai” system for the deliveries and in the process many mothers ran the risk of infections and stood at the edge of losing their babies with related medical problems. This scenario provoked him to think and in the process conceived a vision... of creating an institution that could understand and take care of all the medical needs of a woman before, during and after her pregnancy... to give the joy of motherhood in a healthy and safe way.

Dr Kapur realized this vision by setting up the first maternity hospital in Lahore under the aegis of Lahore Hospital Society. Just when all the services he offered in the hospital began and were being recognized and appreciated by the people of Lahore, India went through the trauma of partition and Dr Kapur shifted to Ludhiana.
