Ludhiana Cricket

This Ludhiana city has produced many cricketers like Yash Pal Sharma, Chaman Lal, Bharti Vij, Satish Mangal, Girdhari Lal Joshi, Dharam Raj (senior and junior), Vinod Sharma, Rakesh Mehra, Dharmveer, Shyam Lal and many others. But Ludhiana is lacking proper infrastructure for the game, as there is no cricket stadium in the town.

All the players who represent the district & the other enrolled by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) have to practice at the Arya College ground because there is no cricket stadium in this industrial town. The other cites like Jalandhar, Patiala, Mohali and Amritsar are having a cricket stadium. Ludhiana is the largest, most populated city of the state with the maximum number of cricket players and sports lovers. But the government appears to be ignorant about the promotion of the game in the city........................................

Lodhi Club Ludhiana

Lodhi Club Ludhiana is a registered society, which do not gets any aid or grant from any organization. Lodhi Club is offering all the facilities like swimming pool, cards room, billiards room, bar, tennis court, gyms and games for children under one roof. The club has kept its influential temperament and is very selective in granting membership. The club is about 12 years old and is basically meant for business class. As it is an entertainment club, anything for the 'social cause' is not active in the club

Sutlej Club Ludhiana

Satluj Club Ludhiana is one of the oldest & prestigious clubs in the north, which was Ludhiana established by the British. The club has maintained its elite character and is very selective in granting membership. Probably that explains the reason why the membership has been restricted at less than 3000 in a city of 40 lakh people. Ludhiana Seasons

The foremost notion of Ludhiana one gets is that of a city, effervescent with opulence. The land of Ludhiana is a land of exhilarating culture, numerous images of credible emerald green fields & jovial people whose healthy pastoral ways of friendship & bonhomie are very much a part of their tradition.

There are three main seasons i.e. summer, monsoon & winter. Summer remains in the Ludhiana from Mid April to Mid July & the heat is excruciating at that time. Ludhiana Temperature

There is a meteorological observatory in the district at Ludhiana and the records of this station may be taken as representative of the meteorological conditions in the district in general. Temperatures increase rapidly after February. June is generally the hottest month with the mean daily maximum temperature at 40.6oC (105.1oF) and the mean daily minimum at 27.2oC (81.0oF). Hot scorching dust-laden winds blow during the summer season and on individual days the day temperature may reach above 45oC (1130oF). Afternoon thundershowers and occasional dust storms bring welcome relief from the heat though only temporarily. With the onset of the monsoon in the district early in July, there is appreciable drop in the day temperatures.

But the night temperature in the monsoon season is nearly as high as in the latter part of summer. On account of the increased moisture in the monsoon air, the weather is quite sultry and uncomfortable even in the monsoon season in between the rains. After about mid-September when the monsoon withdraws, the night temperatures decrease rapidly.

Ludhiana Climate

Ludhiana experiences a very extreme type of climate, which is very hot in the summer and very cold during the winter. Ludhiana Climate is characterized by dryness except a brief spell of monsoon season in a very hot summer & a bracing winter. May, June & Mid-July are generally considered to be the hottest months. Hot and scorching dust laden winds blow during summer season and on individual days the day temperature by to night temperature. The monsoon washes off the city of Ludhiana during the months of July to the first phase of September. The period of mid September to about the middle of November may be termed as post monsoon or transitional period.

The winter season starts from middle of November to the early part of March, when it becomes very cold during the night. December & January are the coldest month. If you can stand neither extreme heat nor cold, the best time to visit Ludhiana is from February to mid April. Starting from February to the mid of April, the weather in Ludhiana remains quite pleasant and enjoyable. This is the best time of the year for the people to visit Ludhiana who fails to tolerate any sort of extremities of climatic conditions.

Road Network & HierarchyThe city is spread over an area of 159.3sq.km. The present road network is spread over12.72 sq. km of area, which accounts for 8% of the total municipal area. The total road length is 1356 km, and the equivalent road length is 3390 km. The city has roads ranging from 6 to 35 m width.

The existing road network of Ludhiana is radial in pattern converging in to the heart of the city. There is a circular Link Road on which six regional roads meet at different points. About 31% of the road length has ROW (Right of way) more than 30 m ................................
